<div dir="ltr">Adam -<br><div><br></div><div>What you describe as "farm ponds", is that the same as cattle tanks (in ranch country)? I have also encountered those on farms, where you have a small dam on a mostly-dry stream that catches water when it rains. I've been tagging them as intermittent reservoirs because that's how GNIS (data source in the USA) describes it. But they could also reasonably qualify as a basin. So far I've left that case to the margin, but I'd be interested to hear what other people think about these, especially since I live very far away from where these tend to exist!</div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Jan 5, 2022 at 12:54 PM Adam Franco <<a href="mailto:adamfranco@gmail.com">adamfranco@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div>Reading through the proposal I see one particular case node covered and another that isn't clear related to farm infrastructure.<br><br></div><div>A common feature of farms near me are "<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaerobic_lagoon" target="_blank">manure lagoons</a>". These normally are located near barns or feed-lots and have liquid sewage piped into them. The contents are often stored for some period before being pumped into tankers which spray the contents on fields as fertilizer. According to the description of <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:water%3Dwastewater" target="_blank">water=wastewater</a>, it is unclear if <span style="font-family:monospace">natural=water</span>+<span style="font-family:monospace">water=wastewater</span> is the appropriate tagging for these "manure lagoons". Colloquially they are called ponds, but due to their constructed nature they may be reservoirs or weir-controlled detentions. Sometimes their outflow is a fixed-level pipe rather than a weir or other more complex control system Certainly <span style="font-family:monospace">natural=water</span> applies in these cases, but the dividing line between <span style="font-family:monospace">water=reservior</span> and <span style="font-family:monospace">water=pond</span> is unclear to me for these cases.<br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, Dec 13, 2021 at 11:10 PM Brian M. This proposal deprecates landuse=reservoir in favor of natural=water + water=reservoir, and adopts improved definitions for lake, pond, and reservoir. This proposal was first proposed[2] around this time last year, in which I received and incorporated significant feedback. Given the large gap in time since this was last discussed, I am opening a second RFC period in order to allow for any renewed discussion.<div><br></div><div>[1] <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Reservoir" target="_blank">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Reservoir</a><br>[2] <a href="https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2020-December/057073.html" target="_blank">https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2020-December/057073.html</a><br></div></div>
