Ever since I saw Wikidata values / links begin to be added as an OSM tag, I have thought “wait, what actually warrants that any of this is true / accurate…?” Knowing that for that to be true, I must be sucked into the Wikidata world and made to understand it, and conform to it, and I didn’t want to, as I didn’t join OSM to do that, and I don’t think I must, and it is neither fun nor rewarding (directly to me, like OSM mapping already is). I have no obligation to “manage” or “warrant” Wikidata verifiability, and I don’t plan on starting anytime soon. So, yeah, there is a fairly fundamental breakdown of the value found in that tagging (in my mind, and I believe others, as well, considering my resonance with Joseph articulating this).
Tagging mailing list
Tagging@openstreetmap.org
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging
