Hi,</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><br>
</p>
<p>I recently saw the shadow of a ‘Hills Hoist’ cloths line while
mapping and wondered how to map it. It did stand out.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">Existing tags that
almost fit:</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">amenity=clothes_dryer,
only some 300 uses world wide</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">clothes_dryer=umbrella,0
of these world wide</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><br>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">The traditional
‘Hills Hoist’ while resembling that is not quite correct, the
arms are horizontal not at an angle, see
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hills_Hoist">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hills_Hoist</a> for a photo and lots of
history. There would be quite a few
of these in Australia, they are also sold in the United Kingdom
and
the USA.. </p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">Some online sales
links:<br>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><a
href="https://www.theclotheslinestore.com.au/folding-rotary-clothes-hoist/"
class="moz-txt-link-freetext">https://www.theclotheslinestore.com.au/folding-rotary-clothes-hoist/</a></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><a
href="https://www.rotarydryers.co.uk/rotary-dryers/"
class="moz-txt-link-freetext">https://www.rotarydryers.co.uk/rotary-dryers/</a>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><a
href="https://www.amazon.com/rotary-clothesline/s?k=rotary+clothesline"
class="moz-txt-link-freetext">https://www.amazon.com/rotary-clothesline/s?k=rotary+clothesline</a></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><br>
</p>
The traditional
style does not fold like an umbrella where as the newer style ones
do. There is a tag for this ‘clothes_dryer:foldable=yes /no’ and
I think that would do the job of distinguishing between them when
known.
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">From the sales
descriptions above the name ‘rotary’ stands out as common with
the occasional ‘umbrella’ being used in addition where they fold.
The description ‘rotary’ comes from the ability to rotate with
wind. I think it is not possible to distinguish the folding ones
from
the non folding ones in satellite imagery. For this reason I would
not use the tag ‘clothes_dryer=umbrella’ but put forward the tag
‘clothes_dryer=rotary’ as a better alternative. Where the folding
capability is known then it can be added as the tag
‘clothes_dryer:foldable=yes /no’. <br>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%"><br>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%">I have mapped 11 of
these so far. Any thoughts/comments? <br>
