[talk-au] Problems with renderers when there's no OSM data, yet?

Hello AU mappers,

I know this question isn't particulrly related to Australia but there doesnt seem to be a mailing list for Japan.
I'm travelling there next week & plan to take my GPS to do some OSM mapping when I get back. However when I checked out what's already mapped in OSM I came across some weird things I haven't seen in the Australian data.

Mapnik & osmarender seem to have some issues in Northern Japan.
In Osmarender, there doesn't seem to be anything north from about Tokyo at all - its all blue sea at all zoom levels. In mapnik at least there's a coastline for northern Honshu & Hokkaido at the lower zoom levels but once you zoom in to level 11 or higher it reverts back to blue sea.Have a look at http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=36&lon=139&zoom=5 & toggle between Mapnik & Osmarender & zoom in & out to see what i mean.
This doesn't make any sense as I thought that Osmarender would show the updates to the tiles I asked for render requests before mapnik would, as its only updated once a week??? (I've just added a few points near where i'll be visiting.

I'm assuming this might have something to do with the lack of much (any?) OSM data yet, but it making it rather difficult to add any initial detal to get myself orientated. How do I get these lower zoom levels refreshed so I can find my way around? I get a message at zoom level 6 on www.informationfreeway.org that to render the tileset I have to run lowZoom.pl 56 23 6 12. How do I do that?

Thanks, any help or info would be appreciated.
MarkT.
