How can it possibly know? This is garbage in, garbage out. When asked an

impossible question, the answer is gibberish. The router has no way of

knowing that the node is connected to two nearby ways rather than just

the nearest, which is the approximation I'd expect.

Service roads seem like the perfect solution: They're unabiguous and

exactly correct. Trying to drive or route to disconnected nodes is

nonsensical.

Actually, driving to disconnected nodes is something that happens all

the time. I have frequently been navigating to various nodes - some

servos, some other POI's or sometimes just personal waypoints. None of

these lie on a road, and certainly are not associated with other nodes.

What I have found is that the Etrex will navigate to the nearest road,

then give a message "Enter Shell Luddenham on Left". The only ambiguity

is when the POI is on a corner, and there are two adjacent roads. (I

found another servo to check it on). The Etrex navigator seems to find

the road with the highest priority - secondary takes precedence over

residential or unclassified. That's just on the Etrex. The Nuvi seems

to recognise both roads - well at least some of the time. So adding in

service roads may be adding complexity for selected devices only.<br>

There may also be mapping issues - I'm still investigating that, and

will come back later if anything turns up.<br>

But in the meantime, my wife and I are off for 2 weeks holiday, so this

one goes on the back burner. Mind you, a trip from Campbelltown (NSW)

to the Great Ocean Road (via Canberra) could turn up lots of other

issues.<br>
