For example,</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Some in regional towns have been mapped as leisure=park, name = XXX Rest Area, with toilets etc mapped separately, e.g.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/294143613#map=18/-36.04168/146.95065">https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/294143613#map=18/-36.04168/146.95065</a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Sometimes the park has been mapped as an area using leisure=park, and a point has been added with tourism=camp_site, name = XXX Rest Area, as here:</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1811186234#map=19/-35.65033/145.57339">https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1811186234#map=19/-35.65033/145.57339</a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Sometimes tourism=camp_site, name = XXX Rest Area, has been added as a point beside a service road,</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/316588165#map=17/-35.06066/147.05516">https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/316588165#map=17/-35.06066/147.05516</a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">And sometimes both highway=rest_area and tourism=camp_site have both been added at the same place, as here:</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2420391844">https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2420391844</a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">So, in practice, tourism=camp_site seems to be used to identify areas where camping is allowed.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Many rest areas that allow camping in this region are right beside the highway, not far from it, and I haven’t seen any distinction between ‘stop over places’ and ‘rest areas’ as such.
