<p>Hello,</p>
<p>I noticed in these changes that the Australian tagging guidelines have included this note about footpaths (sidewalks) in jurisdictions where cycling is allowed.</p>
<p>"</p>
<table class="wikitable">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>On all shared use paths which can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists.<br />*Cycling is permitted on footpaths in ACT, NT, QLD, SA, Tas., and WA, and<span> </span><tt class="mw-content-ltr" dir="ltr"><bdi><a title="Key:highway" href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:highway">highway</a></bdi>=<a title="Tag:highway=path" href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dpath"><bdi>path</bdi></a></tt><span> </span>should be used in general circumstances. Refer to<span> </span><tt class="mw-content-ltr" dir="ltr"><bdi><a title="Key:highway" href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:highway">highway</a></bdi>=<a title="Tag:highway=path" href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dpath"><bdi>path</bdi></a></tt><span> </span>for further guidance on which supporting tags to use.</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>Is this accepted practice? To be this doesn't seem like a good idea: it seems like the same problem as explicitly tagging sidewalks as bicycle=no; if there is any change in legislation the tags won't make sense?</p>
