<div dir="ltr">Hi Andrew,<div><br></div><div>I don't have a strong preference, but in the same way as <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:wikipedia">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:wikipedia</a> and <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:wikidata">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:wikidata</a> only include the page identifier (language/title) and the wikidata ID, and not the full URL, I would suggest do similar, like ref:nhvr=abc123.</div><div><br></div><div>In terms of including an external (eg NHVR) reference on each OSM object, I think that's okay so long as the OSM community can also lookup those references and ensure they are correct (for the right road/road segment), fix them, or add missing ones etc. If you were proposing a tag like ref:nhvr=abc123 where abc123 was private/internal to NHVR it becomes more problematic as mappers can't verify/fix them.</div><div><br></div><div><div>If your data varies a lot along a road way, I'd consider if it makes more sense to skip the reference/link and just publish it in a way that references OSM, etc. using OSM NodeIDs, OpenLR strings (for example like what Mapbox do with their traffic <a href="https://docs.mapbox.com/data/traffic/guides/data/">https://docs.mapbox.com/data/traffic/guides/data/</a>).</div><div><br></div><div>I'd also see what we can do in terms of adding data directly to OSM. Road widths can be mapped <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:width#Width_of_streets">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:width#Width_of_streets</a>, gradient could be mapped with <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:incline">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:incline</a>. There's some discussion needed though if we want to mass map this kind of data into OSM.</div></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, 2 Sept 2024 at 17:31, Andrew Hughes <<a href="mailto:ahhughes@gmail.com">ahhughes@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Hi All,<br><br><div>At the NHVR, we are collecting a lot of information about the road/transport network that doesn't belong in OSM (just like the info on wikipedia and wikidata) does not either.
