just found this:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://fixmystreet.irisnet.be/">http://fixmystreet.irisnet.be/</a>
This is apparently something that's orginaised by Brussel itself,
and currently 14 of the 19 municipalities use.
Has anybody tries to contact the Flemisch or Walloon government
to try and do the same thing? I think this could be useful to
have.

<pre wrap="">Good idea indeed, especially if an application were written using OSM.

<pre wrap="">Afterthought: that application already exists. It's called OpenStreeBugs.
(Even the name is appropriate for reporting holes in the streets ;-))

<pre wrap="">I think they have a totally different purpose. OpenStreetBugs and
Notes are about problems with the map. Those things need to be
fixed in openstreetmap. FixMyStreet are problems that aren't
related to the map but with the street and other things that
someone needs to fix in the real world.</pre>

<br>
What you say is that fixing a hole in the street is not the same as
adding a missing name on a map.<br>
That is perfectly true.<br>
<br>
What I say is that the same software can be used to report the
location of the hole, the missing name or whatever.<br>
It must, of course, work on different databases and it may need some
modifications, esp. regarding who clears up the reports and how
(e.g. are the warnings generating e-mail or things like that).<br>
Keeping the reports on screen to avoid duplicates and spare people's
time is a key feature.<br>

<pre wrap="">That doesn't mean that that the software for FixMyStreet can't
be improved. It's open source.
</pre>
</blockquote>
<br>
Or the OpenStreetBug and FixMyStreet software could be merged to
cover a wider scope of applications.<br>
That can be many, like events and not only in Belgium.<br>

Ah. Addition to the main map. I had seen it, clicked it and seen
nothing.<br>
It should be <a href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes">Parcourir
les notes</a> IMHO. I wish they were showing other hidden data
like POIs the same way.<br>
<br>
It's not clear to me if Notes uses a different database than OSM, if
what I say of OSB holds for Notes.<br>
It is not clear if "<a
href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes#Planned_support_in_other_applications"><span
class="tocnumber"></span><span class="toctext">Planned support
in other applications</span></a>" means that other applications
could update the same database as Notes or if the Notes software is
made portable so that they they can update their own, or both.<br>
<br>
In short, congratulations to all who write such applications, I hope
that my 2 €¢ can help generalize their scope and ... I'll let you
debug the documentation ;-)<br>
<br>
BTW, I've made this <a
href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes#Adding_a_note">update
to this text</a> and I'll do it in Russian too. If s.o.can update
another language ...<br>
<blockquote type="cite">Leave a short message on the map if
something is missing or obviously wrong, like <strike>"oneway in
wrong direction"</strike> <b>"oneway goes northbound"</b> or
"bridge or level_crossing?". These reports can be processed by map
editors. <b>Add the message understandably and thoughtfully, e.g.
not </b><b>"oneway in wrong direction" because someone could
have flipped the direction before the note is read.
</b></blockquote>
