The message you are replying to (mine and Ben's) simply concerns
giving a name to a motorway access link so that GPS software
taking it can tell the driver to "turn right onto <name of the
motorway link>" like it does for every other road or street.<br>
This issue is solved.<br>

<div>Hallo Martijn,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
I just picked a random exit node <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/31247369"
target="_blank">http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/31247369</a>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>it has the following tags:</div>
<br>
exit_to=Turnhout, Kasterlee<br>
highway=motorway_junction<br>
name=Turnhout-Centrum<br>
ref=24
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, this is not typical for Belgium. I also
checked some junctions around Antwerp (<a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/5bG"
target="_blank">http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/5bG</a> ) , none
of them has an "exit_to". The name and ref are what we use
for all our exits. They all have a number and a name.</div>
<div>During my lanes/turn:lanes editing in Flandres, I've
encountered a handful of cases where there is a destination on
the motorway_link (the exit).</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Furthermore we do not have a lot of "destination" tags,
that is why Johan proposed to help us, based on some images he
took. He would tag the destinations as in The Netherlands, so
with a destination and destination:ref tag. Perhaps even with
the destination:symbol extension.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>André's example was for an entrance to a motorway, not an
exit (if I'm not mistaken). I assume we have even less
(destination) data there.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>None of the keys is used really much: <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/compare/destination/destination:forward/destination:backward/exit_to">http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/compare/destination/destination:forward/destination:backward/exit_to</a></div>
<div>but based on the fact that there is some growing support
for destination in the US (pushed by you guys I understand), I
would prefer to use destination.</div>
<div><br>

in the U.S. we have been moving from the (deprecated)<br>
exit_to= on the motorway_junction node to tagging the
destinations on<br>
the _link ways using destination= and destination:ref=. For
the exit<br>
numbers, we keep it simple and use ref= on the
motorway_junction node.<br>
This is also what the Scout app supports for the US (even
though it<br>
also looks at exit_to= because there is still so many of
those left).<br>
Note that this is just for the exits, not for the main
roadways.<br>

The wiki has a lot of partially contradictory tagging
proposals, but I<br>
feel that the combination of destination / destination:ref
on the<br>
_link and ref on the motorway_junction node is the simplest
convention<br>
that covers all bases.<br>
<br>
Did you end up with a 'definitive' way of doing it in
Belgium / NL<br>
yet? Have you looked at common practice in surrounding
countries?<br>

Thanks / Martijn<br>
