I map quite often some forest tracks and I usually map them as highway=path. To me "highway=footway" is more for small paths in cities and villages where 4-wheels vehicles cannot go (such as narrow streets), while "highway=path" is a more generic term and more dedicated to inhabited areas. I would definetely map as </span><span class="" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6572">"highway=footway" a path that is explicitely restricted to pedestrians only for instance (with a signpost). <br></span></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6838" dir="ltr"><br><span class="" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6572"></span></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6853" dir="ltr"><span class="" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6572">The page <a id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6854" href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Features#Paths">http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Features#Paths </a> </span><span class="" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1443034902123_6572">claims similar stuffs. Is there some documentation for Belgian<br>preferences?<br><br>I tend to map as either path or footway when it is not possible to enter<br>with a four wheel drive, or it is obviously not in use as something for<br>cars (restricted access, or single track). Obviously only cycleway if it is<br>clearly marked as such. Then path when it is more of an informal track, so<br>no part of a walking network, just existing because it is used.
