1st a little wiki (so others can try to understand) :)<div><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostGIS">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostGIS</a><br></div><div>As i saw that on GeoBase that its part of the <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px; "><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Geospatial_Consortium" title="Open Geospatial Consortium" style="color: rgb(0, 43, 184); background-image: none; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; -webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-color: initial; text-decoration: underline; background-position: initial initial; ">Open Geospatial Consortium</a> </span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">... something that the folks on the OSGeo discussion list talk about (that im still trying to wrap my head around) -- fortunately they saw my email, and posted the announcement on their site, so people in that community are aware. We just have to ask the right questions. :)</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">.. Anyway, a google search and this came up. Talking about how to make postGIS Database. (perhaps the one who posted this article can help?)</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><a href="http://oegeo.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/turning-openstreetmap-into-a-wfs/">http://oegeo.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/turning-openstreetmap-into-a-wfs/</a><br>
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">and here is the OpenStreetMap perspective of PostGIS</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><a href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/PostGIS">http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/PostGIS</a><br></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br>
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">I do know that in the UK they have their street numbering system all set up, so perhaps there is someone that can assist further? (i would call out, but i don't know how to ask :@)</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">And as far as including / excluding areas. .. remember that it might be possible to make boxes even smaller. .. but your right, this doesn't help for street numbering.</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">And using a layer for tracing wont help either.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br>
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">So from your idea i got:</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">1. Merging the OSM reference id# database (our big Canada file) with the GeoBase dataset onto a separate PostGIS database. </span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">2. Purging the results of close lines/nodes. (street names maybe?) ... creating a GeoBase/OSM database. Where it just looks for that, and removes the extra OSM stuff that it doesnt need.</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">3. Then importing it back to OSM. .. purging it with the original OSM Id's.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Am i following that right?</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;"><br></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Cheers,</span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: -webkit-sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Sam</span></div>
