I thought so after i sent it :)

This is where the quandary occurs. Things like chopping up a way to
add bridges, or to realign an intersection, or other such
modifications... do we just go about our editing with little regard
the procedure?

I think you meant "with little regard for the geobase data" instead of "with little regard for the existing data". right?

If so, then yes... we disregard geobase data, and think of it as just some other mapper from afar who has never actually been there before, or maybe was, but a long long time ago. :-)

I guess my answer is; Since your local to the data, it's up to your disgression on how you want to deal with it. ... end result is to make a better map. Thats why the files are (will be) available todo with as you please.
Feel free to destroy/mix/change the geobase tags/data is you like. It makes no difference to the "OSM" map. The data is there to 'help' not to 'hinder' map development.

Hope that actually helps,

You didn't even come close to the subject of my query. I wasn't asking
how to import data, but rather how to edit the imported data without
destroying the GeoBase tags.
