</tr></tbody></table><br><br>Hi all,<br>In CanVec, we have 'cutline' as represented by a way.. (and not listed as an area)<br><br>However, for looking at the map at a higer zoomlevel. (from far away) it's fine to list the cutline.. as an actual line (just like a river can be listed as a way... but when you get more detailed... it needs to be an area, if its appropriate width of scale. <br>
<br> However, in OpenStreetMap, we want to be more detailed than that. As we know that a cutline is actually an area which was man_made and cut... so that ice_roads could be made.. or cables can be layed... or simply clear cut for wood harvesting. ... (or a set of highly efficient beavers) :-)<br>
<br>We know that the land, might get used for different activities. .. such as (a cross country ski trail in the winter) or a hiking route ... or a ATV track.. <br>or only parts of it get used.<br><br>So basically, it's a map feature that is important to have on a map, as it's helpful to map users to navigate.<br>
<br>ALSO... we know that the CanVec feature for natural=wood land_use=wood. ... is also available, as a polygon. .. so this 'cut line area' is often shown... simply by the natural_wood area not being there. ... so we already know that without that line 'cutline' ... we can already depect that this line (area of cut trees) ... most likely exist.<br>
<br>However, we cant assume that this cutline exists... just because there is no landuse=wood polygon around.<br><br>..... So whats the solution?<br>We have a map feature that is available from canvec that is available as a line. ... and it needs to be tagged so it's useful on a rendered map & useful for a Garmin map. :)<br>
<br>I recommend man_made=cutline<br><a href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:man_made%3Dcutline">http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:man_made%3Dcutline</a><br>... and simple man_made =cutline is suffice<br>... on the garmin map, it will show up as just a line.<br>
I recommend adding the tags<br>"name=Cut Line"<br>"name:fr=Percée"<br><br>The wiki really needs to be cleaned up, and we do have more examples (right from canvec) that can be used to further define this page.<br>
I can use the Garmin Map view of it (from Ibycus topo) since its the same source.
