from the inconsistencies, there is for example also the Geobase import.
In 2009 the available Geobase data didn't contain road names in Québec,
and by then it was also not clear when it would contain names. So there
are many areas which have roads without names. Furthermore, there have
been subsequent Canvec releases in which data / tagging issues have been
resolved. An example is the use of "natural=land" tag as mentioned by
Brian Gamberg, but in one or two releases the amenity=school and
amenity=prison tags were swapped around as well.<br id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_148"><br><div class="yui_3_7_2_16_1352850370645_55" id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_149" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:13px;font-family:Arial;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;">Having some kind
of checklist attached to the micro-tasking, combined with periodical
reviews (which IMHO think are necessary, for example with new Canvec
releases) and tools like OSM Inspector will also ensure that the data
quality remains good in the future. For this system to work, also areas
with existing data (either user-contributed or imported), which seem
"complete" should be reviewed.<br></div>></div><div id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_145" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:13px;font-family:Arial;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;"><br></div><div id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_159" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:13px;font-family:Arial;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;">Frank,</div><div id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_161" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:13px;font-family:Arial;background-color:transparent;font-style:normal;"><br id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_166"></div><div id="yiv279173379yui_3_7_2_23_1352816460874_51">I agree with you. Imports and various ways of contributing to the map are necessary. What lack the most is organization and participation. Also, the talk-ca list and a few wiki pages are not enough to organize the community. Just a few experienced mappers contribute regularly to this list.
<br><br>We need ways to let mappers of various experience know what can be done and select tasks they can do easily. And monitoring is an essential part of this job. There are only a few local communities at the moment. These are important to take the relay, train and motivate enthousiast mappers, take contact with new mappers.<br><br>Some jobs like the imports or noname corrections have to be done through micro-tasking while others can probably be done by bots.<br><br>To correct the unnamed roads, the Noname layer from layers.openstreetmap.fr would be a first step to orient mappers to areas that need to be improved ( look from zoom 12 and upper ) were they can edit. From the Layers API, it is possible to click on the Edit link at the bottom right. Then from the Openstreetmap.org, a mapper can edit in Potlatch or JOSM. <br>See
