You could put together a very capable hexacopter (1 kg lift,
20 min flying time) for about $1500 (see
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.canadadrones.com/">http://www.canadadrones.com/</a>), and there are a number of hobby
UAVs in the $300 to $1000 range. <br>
<br>
But there are lots of things to consider: regulations
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/general-recavi-brochures-uav-2270.htm">http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/general-recavi-brochures-uav-2270.htm</a>),
insurance, cameras, image processing, ground control points,
training,...<br>
<br>
I wonder if Transport Canada would consider aerial imaging for
OpenstreetMap "recreation" (see
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/managementservices-referencecentre-documents-600-623-001-972.htm#e4-2">http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/managementservices-referencecentre-documents-600-623-001-972.htm#e4-2</a>).<br>

<p>Hi,</p>
<p>Here's a pretty interesting post about the use of aerial
drones as tools for geomatics in Alberta.</p>

<p>Despites the fact this is in context of a private,
extensive use, those expensive drones have cheaper
equivalents, as you all know. <br>
This week-end at SotmFr i've heard about drones they've
used. <br>
With Guy Talbot, as Quebec local group representatives, we
found several exemples of "balloon mapping" (unfortunatly
dependant of helium gas and a cord) but what about drones? </p>
