<div class="">I am working at the University of Calgary on a project that is using OpenStreetMap data to provide a mapping service for Arctic researchers. We chose to use OpenStreetMap as we would like to encourage communities to contribute and share their

 local mapping data.</div>

<div class="">One of the partners on our project is the Arctic Institute of North America (<a href="http://arctic.ucalgary.ca/" class="">http://arctic.ucalgary.ca/</a>), and one of their members asked me about the naming of islands in the Canadian Arctic: is

 there a reason some islands are named in French and others in English? The Arctic Institute generally uses the English names (or names in the indigenous languages).</div>
