It tracks all the tags used by all mappers across the planet - the wiki has a page on it (<a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Taginfo" target="_blank">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Taginfo</a>). I note that there are several taginfo sub-sites that limit the data down to particular countries. There does not appear to be one there for Canada, but it should be possible to have such a thing drawn together - that way, the tags that StatsCan wants to see are the ones included.<br><br></div>Overpass Turbo can run queries on the database for particular tag combinations. Any way that has been tagged with Building = Yes could be queried and the related Tourism / Amenity / Leisure / Etc tags stripped for a reasonable list of related tags for Canadian buildings. This is probably easier done via a programmer and the source OSM data rather than an online tool, but it proves that it could be done. <br><br></div>Adam<br></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div><div class="h5">On Wed, Jun 15, 2016 at 12:31 PM, john whelan <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:jwhelan0112@gmail.com" target="_blank">jwhelan0112@gmail.com</a>></span> wrote:<br></div></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div><div class="h5"><p dir="ltr">As a first step Stats would like to know the tags used when mapping buildings in Canada and the number of times used. This is to get an idea of what is already mapped and to see which values should be used when new tags are added. I looked at a small sample from Ottawa and noted 127 different tags on buildings including address tags.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The other part of this is what is available under other tags than building. For example amenity=school etc. I suspect school, college and universities are fairly well mapped.</p>
