I think you'll find that in OSM what the local mappers want and decide goes. America does it this way doesn't really mean much.<br>

Quebec in particular likes to show it's independence. Ottawa maps it's
buildings differently to other locations in Canada. When asked about it
the local mappers simply said they like the way it was done.<br>

Talk first if you must on talk-ca but I don't see any enthusiasm for
what you are proposing especially if it means reeducating people.<br>
