Hmm. The ways do look plausible compared to google maps data, but
notably doesn't match it (road shapes slightly different, less side
turnings etc)
Not sure where the data came from, but it wasn't google maps as far as
I can see. Doesn't quite match google maps overheads either, and
anyway the footpaths aren't visible.
I'm inclined to say it could well have come from GPS survey, but I
don't normally use potlatch so I'm not sure if you can use local GPX
(as per josm) or other data sources without using public gps traces
(can there be server-side non-public traces?).
This is assuming that the created_by=potlatch is accurate... could it
be josm with an incorrect (or modified) created_by tag?
I'd feel much happier if we could actually talk to him (or even if he
could be persuaded to join the mailing list, as he's obviously putting
quite a bit of time into OSM). We're all just supposing and that can
grow in the retelling!
