Hi Paul<div><br></div><div>Some email discussions with sysadmins has revealed that Grant Slater might be the best person to contact. Also I've had personal assurances that it should probably be OK but it's best to check. Look forward to the write-ups. If there's anything else just get in touch</div>

<div><br></div><div>We'll definitely be issuing a press release and a blog entry about it. It's something that we'll want to shout about, share the knowledge with other local authorities, and hopefully encourage them down a similar route in future.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The presentation should be fine too. But, as the mapping (and other graphics) work is definitely Pete's baby, I'd like him to take the glory. He'd also be in a much better position to answer any technical questions than I. Could you keep him posted with any updates, please (email address cc'ed into this)?</div>

<div><br></div><div>As you may be aware, our Council elections are taking place on the 2nd of May this year, with the counts taking place on the 3rd May.</div><div><br></div><div>We're busy working on the website's presentation of the results as they come in, with one element of this being a map of Warwickshire, shaded in as results are declared. This map would be using OpenStreetMap as a base.</div>
<div><br></div><div>This will, of course, greatly increase the number of OpenStreetMap requests from us on that day, as visitors excitedly hit refresh, in eager anticipation of the next result. We'll also be displaying the site - including the maps - on big screens at each of the count centres, ideally with some auto-refresh function in place on the browsers every couple of minutes.</div>
<div><br></div><div>It's a bit difficult to estimate the total number of page views that occur during the day, but we could see 100,000.</div><div><br></div><div>But we're conscious that 'over-use' of OpenStreetMap could result in blocking us - which could spell disaster if it happened on the day.</div>
<div><br></div><div>So I wanted to email you flag this up with you, see if there was anything we could do to reduce this risk of us being blocked, and - if all else fails - beg.</div><div><br></div><div>(You'll be pleased to hear that we'll be pushing the raw results out in an open format for use by other parties.)</div>
