Ah yes I remember that carpark, and doing a circular walk along the wall to the East.<div><br></div><div>I think the confusion is in part due to the cliffs, which seem to define the wall more than any bricks there.</div><div>
The route of the wall should be made up of a continuous line, but I don't think it is all wall. We could split it up and tag some parts additionally as wall. We could also add extra lines as barrier=wall. Such as around forts.</div>
<div>I've done some edits in that area to make it clear.</div><div><br></div><div>There's a lot of detail that could be added by looking at walls on Bing aerial imagery if someone wanted to sit down and do the tracing. I'm not sure if the imagery is precisely positioned round there. I usually use JOSM and offset the imagery so it matches my GPS traces, where I know the GPS had good signal.<br>

Hi Gregory<br><br>Thanks for the feedback.  I think JOSM thinks that "ruins" should be an area.  It is a line on the map and you can see it trying to shade the area between the two ends.  Looking further down the wall it appears that I may just have hit an odd section where "ruins" was used.  It is a separate line from the path so I will change this to wall.<br>

<br>I'm not familiar with relations but presume just changing the tag and adjusting the position wont change this.  <br><br>Regards<br><br>Dudley<br><br><div><div></div><hr>Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2012 14:00:09 +0100<br>From: <a href="mailto:nomoregrapes@googlemail.com" target="_blank">nomoregrapes@googlemail.com</a><br>

Hi<br><br>I'm trying to do a bit of mapping near Once Brewed following a walk this weekend.  Hadrian's Wall seems to be tagged as "historic=ruins, name=..." at one point and "historic=wall, name=..." at another.   The former seems to be trying to create an area in JOSM.<br>

<br>Given that I am trying to add barriers.  i.e. walls, fences, gates, stiles etc it would seem that where Hadrian's Wall is actually a physical barrier it should have the tag.  i.e. "barrier=wall" and "historic=wall".  I note that the documentation for "historic" suggests that "historic=yes" should be avoided.<br>

<br>I assume that Hadrian's Wall has been mapped as a historic "wall" whether it still exists as a barrier or not.  Does anyone know the source of the wall data  (there is no tag in the section where I am mapping) as having walked the path that is directly to the side of the wall some of what is currently mapped seems to need adjustment?  Bing appears to be reasonably accurate when compared to the my own and others GPS data in this area.<br>
