But if you need to know each individual building, and to be clear about whether you're looking at a roof overhang or some funny coloured pavement, and if you want to add information like addresses and amenities, you definitely need to visit the area. If it's the former then he is probably better off just using VectorMap anyway and not filling OSM with inaccurate traces.<br>
<br clear="all"><div style>In places like central London (e.g. <a href="http://binged.it/1u2ZY9t">http://binged.it/1u2ZY9t</a>) buildings are so complicated and bunched together that a visit is really a must to get any more than "here be buildings".</div>
<div style><br></div><div style>In many other areas of inner London, particularly residential (e.g. <a href="http://binged.it/1iByiPy">http://binged.it/1iByiPy</a>), the typologies and shapes are pretty easy to understand from aerial imagery so you can accurately guess individual buildings.</div>
<div style><br></div><div style>Obviously a ground survey is better, but I don't think it's always necessary to get good building coverage. The trouble for Brian is that it's difficult to estimate the need for surveys without examining all the imagery.</div>
