   our current accountant - of whom we are meanwhile the sole remaining<br>
client - is going to retire at the end of this business year. So we're<br>
looking for a replacement!<br>
<br>
The plan is for her to still do the year end reporting for this business<br>
year which will happen in mid-2018, but the regular 2018 business year<br>
should already start with the new accountant.<br>
<br>
As you know if you read my financial reporting, we're spending roughly<br>
£5000 per year on accounting. The accountant's tasks currently include:<br>
<br>
* process bank statements and paypal statements every month and match<br>
them up with invoices and paperwork that I will (should) have provided<br>
<br>
* write invoices when requested (about 20-30 per year)<br>
<br>
* prepare quarterly P&L and balance sheet reporting for the members<br>
<br>
* prepare year-end financial report for members and submit tax return to<br>
the authorities; this includes keeping an asset register and computing<br>
depreciation charges<br>
<br>
* generally ensure that we stay abreast of UK tax regulations<br>
<br>
Someone potentially interested in the job might also want to know<br>
<br>
* we're not VAT registered<br>
<br>
* we're a not-for-profit company which is limited by guarantee<br>
<br>
* we're not a charity but we might consider becoming one in the future;<br>
if the accountant has experience in working with charities that would be<br>
welcome but having no such experience would not be a hindrance<br>
<br>
* we're meanwhile doing more transactions in EUR than in GBP (and<br>
there's a sprinkling of USD in the mix too). While everything needs to<br>
be converted to GBP ultimately for the UK taxman, I'm not sure if our<br>
internal reporting should maybe switch to EUR. To be discussed.<br>
<br>
We currently use a SAGE 50 professional software package but we don't<br>
mind if the new accountant were to use something else, provided it can<br>
cope with multi-currency bank accounts. Ideally the accontant would be<br>
using an Internet based accounting system that would allow e.g the OSMF<br>
treasurer to log into the system and view reports and statistics without<br>
having to bother the accountant with it.<br>
<br>
Our current accountant is a small one-person business and this worked<br>
rather well; we'd be more than happy to work with an independent tax<br>
accountant again, but using a larger firm is also possible.<br>
<br>
I am writing this in the hope that someone here might be, or know, an<br>
accountant interested in taking us on as a client. I'm happy to discuss<br>
details of our requirements and workflow with interested candidates.<br>
