This is not a perfect tag, many parks, recreation grounds, playing fields etc are also amenity grassland (although this may be inferred from the main leisure tag when associated with surface), but is quite a widely used term (to the extent that one can buy amenity grassland seed mix). An alternative term which I'd forgotten about which might be more correct as a subtag is urban_commons, noticed it in a local urban flora written about 25 years ago.</div><div><br></div><div>In some places on modern new build estates these patches of grass are often associated with water run-off schemes (retention basins etc), so they may not just be intended to improve the look of the place, but also relate to meeting drainage & surface run-off planning requirements. They are also very common on interwar council estates (usually with "No Ball Games notices" where the purpose is clearly to improve the look of the estate & break up monotony of lines of identical houses. Others may be specific easements for services which may be difficult to ascertain (and anyway I dont think we have a tag for such things).</div><div><br></div><div>Jerry<br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, 2 Feb 2021 at 12:53, Tony Shield <<a href="mailto:tonyosm9@gmail.com">tonyosm9@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">

<p>Hi</p>
<p>Looking at several newish housing estates near me I see areas of
grass, sometimes with path, sometimes long and thin, which appear
to be left as Green Space as part of the overall estate plan.</p>
<p>landcover=grass or leisure=park appear to be tag contenders - any
strong feelings? or other suggestions?<br>
