My understanding, from a decade ago so it maybe hazy, was the RotW
didn't really comprehend the quaint British naming conventions so
crossing_ref was conceived in which to place in the database &
use crossing=* as the main description so everybody could
understand. So crossing_ref=tiger is valid. <br>

Think of it as being similar to the local_ref tag with 'local' being
Britain.<br>

Again vague, but I was informed by my LA it was, until recently,
these tiger crossings weren't able to be specified outside London on
public highways. Hopefully, if they stand firm on their manifesto
promises, Bath should be acquiring it's first brace of them up at
the university. <br>

<div>A quick search showed there are currently 215 of these
mapped in the UK, mostly in London.</div>
<div>Outside of the UK there are 1,591 cases, mainly in Germany,
Italy & Japan.</div>

<div>Would it be possible/what process would need to be taken
for all of these crossings (in the UK) to be batch changed to
"parallel" from "tiger", and the JOSM preset would also need
to be updated to include "parallel" as a crossing type.</div>
