    <p>I'm more inclined (no pun)  to gate_pier as that's the HE
      language and a quick google query shows many companies offering
      them - that leads me to think it is in widespread use and is part
      of the language of gates. The google search for gate_post shows
      less substantial posts. This leads me to identify a clear
      difference between gate_pier and gate_post, the former being more
      substantial in form and function.<br>
