It is not the maximum weight, it is the maximum maximum (sic) authorised <br>
mass (MAM used to be, less accurately referred to as maximum gross <br>
weight). The actual mass might be less than 7.5 tonne, but, if it could <br>
be legally fully loaded to more than that it wouldn't be allowed.<br>

I assume that maximum weight, in relation to weak bridges, refers to the <br>
actual weight at the time.<br>
