Hi,

OS would almost certainly claim some derived copyright in the map based view. You could certainly ask for permission to use the text based version which is derived from the council's statutory Llist of Streets. I believe some council's have made their List of Streets available under the OGL.

There is no particular contradiction between inclusion on both the List of Streets and Definitive Map of Prow. In theory all publicly maintainable highways should be included on the LoS. Whilst it's true that many councils don't bother recording minor highways such as footpaths and Bridleways, as the linked page notes, inclusion merely indicates maintenance responsibility not vehicular access rights

Kind regards,

Adam

On Fri, 29 Oct 2021, 19:59 Brian via Talk-GB, <talk-gb@openstreetmap.org> wrote:

While trying to identify various parts of some PROWs I have come across a section of the Hampshire CC 'Hantsweb' site that provides information about what roads the Council maintains.

My first question is to ask if I can use this source of information?

As an example, take this entry:

https://roadenquiries.hants.gov.uk/roadproblems/highwaymanagement/adoptedroads.aspx?Chalist=77W148%20UV%2001&District=NEW%20FOREST&Districts=07,77&RoadName=new%20road&RoadNumber=

The map has a copyright notice at the bottom; it is not clear to me if this refers to the map, or the information overlayed on the map, or both.

If one clicks the link that opens the text only version of the page there is no reference to copyright.

My second question concerns a conflict with the HCC PROW database.

In the data at the above link, the 'road' is classified as 'W-Footpath-Adopted'. However, if I go to the Hampshire CC database of PROW it is classified as a 'bridleway'.

I would be grateful if someone can explain what I can make of this, explain why, and what should I put on the map?

Thanks

Brian
