When I lived in Stoke-on-Trent, the city council decided to designate <br>
the area around the theatres and museums as the "Cultural Quarter" in an <br>
attempt to make it sound posher than it really is. It used to be a <br>
standing joke that Stoke doesn't really have a cultural quarter - it <br>
barely has a cultural sixteenth!<br>
