I’ve been mapping for a while but only recently joined the list.<br />

I don’t have the full history but this seems a similar purpose to other UK IDs like the FHRS number and has the potentially to be quite useful for map users, as mentioned, on apps that integrate it <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Reference_values_in_the_United_Kingdom" target="_blank">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Reference_values_in_the_United_Kingdom</a><br />

Might it also prove useful for mappers (e.g. helping MapRoulette challenges have more context or similar)?<br />

I don't have a strong opinion on this. However, given that the CID often<br />
may be adding increased attribute data to an existing object already in<br />
OSM, I imagine that this could be construed as database clutter by some. It<br />
might be more useful for newly-added items, e.g. cycle parking, for<br />
instance.<br />
