Do you see this as an aid to local mappers for direct survey/ OSM
edit / engagement with Sustrans, or are you looking to collect
discrepancies for wider discussion please?

Hopefully the map is a help to local mappers to aid them on where
to focus their attention. As expected, most of the discrepancies
are due to the Sustrans data rather than the OSM data and I'm keen
to get Sustrans to create a process (that works!) for accepting
error corrections. If this is successful, local mappers should be
able to report their findings to Sustrans and get the "official"
NCN changed. This isn't in place yet nor do I have any promises so
work still to be done!

I can't do anything with specifics of local errors so I don't
intend to collect those but, if people identify a whole new class
of errors then I'm interested - for example, I noted that ferries
and NCN routes are treated differently (sometimes) between OSM and
Sustrans.

The map may prompt local mappers to examine an area where there
have been NCN improvements and the OSM data needs to be updated.
A quick look at the comparison across Northumberland suggests:

* Most of the flagged discrepancies are down to low-polygon
mapping such as on corners or "wiggly routes". OSM looks more
correct.

e.g. Blyth South Beach dunes - although it's full of dog
walkers, so use the Links Road path!

I'm surprised that Ordnance Survey are accepting the Sustrans data
at the current level of resolution (i.e. which removes the "wiggly"
bits) but this doesn't generally affect people following the route
or routing apps so probably lowest priority for Sustrans to fix.
Fixing the problems where the routes are different (e.g. Alwinton)
is much more important.

At the moment people may plot a route using Ordnance Survey data
from the Sustrans website and then try and follow the route using
an app (e.g. Komoot) which uses the OSM data - confusion ensues
and I'd hope Sustrans would like to avoid this.

Thanks for your input,
