Actually, I noticed now that Mapnik renders Hebrew just fine now, but exporting tiles from bandnet is still a pain.

On Sat, Oct 18, 2008 at 1:36 PM, Yuri Magrisso <yumariso@gmail.com> wrote:

Otherwise what other applications are you using with OSM?

I am using right now TrekBuddy - it is very good for tracking, but its mapping features are not so great. It uses raster tiles and so far the only easy way to generate them is via a Mapnik renderer, which doesn't show names in Hebrew.

I am thinking to try in the near future GpsMid - seems like a promising project.

Yuri

On Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 7:06 PM, Tal <tal.bav@gmail.com> wrote:

Anyway, i've prepared a database file for the freemap software (aka roadmap_editor) from the osm data for israel of acouple of weeks ago. It is not 100% complete. More like a proof of concept.
I'm thinking it might help increase osm's user base in Israel.

The following screen shot is Tel Aviv in Freemap software with the osm's data:

http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotfreemapusc770dv9.png
