<div dir="ltr">Hi,<br><br>Do you know if anybody has discussed in the past to make two map renderings - one using the 'name' tag and another using the 'name:en' tag and have both renderings as options? (as we have now options between Mapnik, Osmarenderer, and others) I did a search, but didn't find anything on it. It looks to me like the most reasonable solution...<br>
<br>I also think that having both Hebrew and English version in the name tag will make the map too cluttered. Besides, if we start putting English names, others would ask why not French or Russian - Israel is a special case in that it is interesting for many cultures. There is actually one guy that started putting Latin names in the name tag that seem to be in Turkish.<br>

</div></div>I understand the need, but writing both is excessive.<br>
<br>
We can (discuss and) decide that we write only English in the name tag<br>
and then figure out how to generate a map in Hebrew for most of the<br>
Israelis who are not very comfortable in English.<br>

Or we can do it in reverse and create a rendering of OSM in English for<br>
those who can't read Hebrew,<br>

It is a general issue in OSM and not limited to Israel or Hebrew. Any<br>
country which uses non-latin alphabet will have that problem as well.<br>
<br>

and favours using the local name in the local script.<br>
