<div dir="ltr">One more thing, rendering a map of Mapnik or Osmarenderer is one thing. What about customizing maps for different devices? I have an old Garmin GPS that doesn't support Hebrew fonts so I wrote a little program that override "name" with the "name:en" values so I get the map in English.<br>

Also, setting the renderer to select name:en or name:he on selection should be easy.<br><br>The only thing that bother me is the name. <a href="http://openstreetmap.org.il/" target="_blank">openstreetmap.org.il</a> is just too long. It can't serve as the main domain name when we'll try to attract the general public.<br>

We can (discuss and) decide that we write only English in the name tag<br>
and then figure out how to generate a map in Hebrew for most of the<br>
Israelis who are not very comfortable in English.<br>

It is a general issue in OSM and not limited to Israel or Hebrew. Any<br>
country which uses non-latin alphabet will have that problem as well.<br>

and favours using the local name in the local script.<br>
