yup a local mapserver is really needed, especially to render india specific poi's. not sure if kenneth is still actively working on his server at http://www.greenchilly.in/
Ideally, the labels would be localised per user. Requires a good deal of work .. a nice meaty project! I can sketch out some of the ideas around this if anyone is interested.

I know there's been discussion and some action around a local OSM India server. This would give full control, and it could be possible to render an English only tile set, a Hindu only tile set, etc.

-Mikel
Hi,
I saw that in OSM the names of cities at lower zoom levels appear in
some local language(I think its hindi). Only on zooming in english
name is visible. Is there a way to turn of this stuff and see only
English names. Infact non hindi areas also show up in hindi. Some
language nazi at work here?
Tanveer

_______________________________________________
Talk-in mailing list
Talk-in@openstreetmap.org
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-in
