I agree. It's easier to filter them out (and make a database of a specific brand) if we separate the branch from the name.<br>
<br>but I have been using "name:branch=" instead of plain branch= since last year<br>(for good reason that the tags are arranged aphabetically in josm - the 'branch' is shown immediately after the 'name'). :-)<br>
<br>It's easier for me to look/search for branch in case there are so many other tags & comments included;  and it shows that said branch-tag is (integral) part of the name).<br><br>I'm using this generic name-branch tag for banks, fastfood chains, mercury drugs, 7-11's etc. <br>

perpendicular to the street. In others, the branch name is printed on<br>
the door. Another acceptable source is to go to the bank's official<br>
website and find their list of branches page.<br>

This branch tag is currently being used in the OSM-PH Garmin map to<br>
create labels like "<name> (<branch>)".<br>
