Hi,<div><br></div><div>I am working on a US map where we would like to use BLM data to illustrate BLM, private, and State land ownership and other types of Land Ownership using <a href="http://www.blm.gov/noc/st/en/business/mapstandards/colormod.html" target="_blank">this color scheme</a>. It is completely impractical for me to upload all of this data for the US, so I am wondering if any OSMers have ever considered incorporating into US OSM data?</div>
<div><br></div><div>A good deal of the western USA lands are managed by Federal and State Land Management Agencies, and for people who like to venture out into these remote areas it is often very helpful to know whether the land one is about to travel through is Wilderness or whether it managed by the Forest Service, BLM, State, or is privately owned. Not to mention the fact that the colors actually work quite well for map backgrounds (see attached).</div>
<div><br></div><div>The BLM has shape file data sets that delineate BLM, State, and Private lands like <a href="http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Programs/geographical_sciences/gis/metadata.html" target="_blank">this <font color="#990000" face="Verdana"><span style="text-align:-webkit-center;font-size:12px">co_lst.zip </span></font>containing BLM, State, and Private land boundaries</a>. Currently, OSM doesn't seem to include this type of data, nor do I see any way to tag this type of data. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Has anyone ever expressed interest in incorporating this type of Land Ownership data into OSM? Or, is there any current interest in trying to incorporate more types of Land Ownership data into OSM like the BLM data (e.g. some part or all of Colorado). As a prolific trail user and OSM trail mapping enthusiast I can vouch for the utility of land ownership data. I continually wish I could see Land Ownership data when I am out on the trail. Since Federal and State Lands lands are customarily outside of towns and cities I do not foresee a lot of conflict with other types of OSM data for these areas. </div>
<div><br></div><div>By the way, OSM already renders United States Forest Service Land Ownership and Wilderness areas (<a href="http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=38.5236&lon=-106.0151&zoom=13&layers=M">see this OSM area</a>)...so its not like the idea of incorporating Land Ownership data into OSM is unprecedented...</div>
<div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div><div><br></div><div>derrick </div>
