Careful! If you remove too much of the green stuff, the folks at Trees Atlanta might send a hit team after you.

Seriously, though, I'm one of those "don't know nothin' about it" people in Georgia, and that's mainly because the import happened before my time. I will agree that a lot of the landuse tags in OSM bear little resemblance to what's there now, mostly due to development and suburban growth, and maybe because some of the data used was based on low-quality aerial photos where you couldn't tell bushes from trees.

I come across a lot of incorrect landuse, but I rarely do anything about it because my main focus has been trying to fix up roads and add useful places, especially in rural areas.

A while back (as in several years ago) I saw a map note or something (not Maproulette) from someone who seemed to have a pretty serious thing for getting rid of a lot of forested areas in Georgia, and was asking for help. I don't remember where I saw that note, though, or who it was from. I didn't join in, mainly because it kinda sounded like he just wanted to eliminate large green areas, not because of inaccuracies.

So with all that said, if someone has an idea for improving the landuse/landcover tagging in Georgia, go for it, even if it's just deleting a lot of poor quality or outdated stuff.

-jack
--
Typos courtesy of fancy auto spell technology.

On February 20, 2021 2:47:44 PM EST, Minh Nguyen <minh@nguyen.cincinnati.oh.us> wrote:
