<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div>Hi Brian,</div><div>Sorry for the late reply! I read your message but hadn't yet had time to write back.<br></div><div> I think addresses still have a worthwhile point on the map because they improve the navigation beyond the address interpolation which is a useful part of the site. They also identify the precise addresses of important buildings such as shops, which makes it easier to go somewhere seen first on the map. In addition neighboring imports in Wayne, NJ and New York City have used them, so it would allow for some consistency with them (though, important to note, some imports like Newark haven't included addresses). It's also my impression that they have little burden on the actual database, though I understand they can make the OSM standard map busy in places.<br></div><div> In general I think it's worthwhile splitting the two imports into separate processes, however, and I want to import the buildings first. If all is well I can document the building import on the wiki tomorrow, and we can reconsider addresses at some future time. I'll make sure to reach out to you again when the time comes.</div><div>Thank you,</div><div>Jacob<br></div><div><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, Dec 14, 2021 at 7:10 AM <<a href="mailto:talk-us-request@openstreetmap.org">talk-us-request@openstreetmap.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">Send Talk-us mailing list submissions to<br>

Hi safetygoggles, all<br>
<br>
? Morris County NJ? building footprint imports manually from <br>
authoritative data, plus corrections .. yes, please<br>
<br>
Regarding US postal address:? I have done large scale commercial work <br>
with US building footprints of various kinds. The coordination and <br>
sensibility of postal address information varies, to this day. In my <br>
opinion, Openstreetmap first and foremost is a representation of what is <br>
physically present, and that means building footprints.? Other <br>
attributes are useful but at what cost?? Is there a real,perfect answer <br>
to address data NO<br>
<br>
? thanks and best regards from Berkeley, California<br>

Hi Mike,<br>
I would be happy to import those as well, I'm not so technically talented<br>
with other scripts but most towns have little mapped and are relatively<br>
straightforward to handle duplicates in. I think buildings will be the<br>
focus of the import however, but it would be nice to replace the address<br>
interpolation with some real addresses. If there aren't too many concerns I<br>
can follow up with some documentation, and move forward into importing in<br>
the coming weeks.<br>
<br>
Since I think I didn't address this specifically in the first message- the<br>
data quality varies wildly from town to town, and is especially bad in<br>
certain wooded areas, which is part of the reason that I want to map it a<br>
bit slowly. I'm worried that too much automation or carelessness would let<br>
in bad data.<br>
<br>
Thank you,<br>
Jacob<br>
