I can't see how awarding people by the 'data' uploaded can in any way be made fare. On the idea of measuring the distance the dots are appart, would it not be easier to subtract the start time from the end time of a track, and then sum total the amount of time that a person has put into data gathering. Becuase otherwise someone who spends weeks mapping footpaths will get nowhere.

I don't think this even works, becuase the creating of nodes is therefore irrelevent. How about if a reward sceme is set up, so that the amount of nodes created is added to the amount of time in the tracks uploaded (in seconds), and then divded by 2. (averaged).

This would enshore that walkers, cycle riders, drivers would have equal reward, and the choice of roads would make no difference. It would also reward people without gps's that only do editing, and also anyone else that spends much time editing. A disadvantage would be that people may still choose to play football (as in example), or just upload routes more than once, or cover motorways repeatadly. But I feal that any members doing hard time in the OSM community would not do this.

Finally, I don't think this is competative at all. It's like saying doing your car drving test is competative. Its not. Passing a test just results in you getting a liecence wich is recognision of your achievenment. Just as gaining a megastar shows what a person has achieved. It would be competative, if you had megastars for being the 25th best at something. As long as there is an indefinate amount of awards that cant be effected by another persons actions then it is not competative.

If you read all of that...well done. I only got to the second paragraph
