But on the other hand, there are nearly 200 users doing updates every day now and probably ten times as many casual visitors.  The project is getting to the size where having the site unavailable or not looking its best is likely to frustrate a lot of visitors and disrupt demos and other things that might be happening.  I for one just sent out a whole bunch of press-releases and would be dismayed if any journalists that happened to come by the site were greeted with a 500 error or broken links or something.

Updating the front page is a small and simple task, but it is high profile and high impact.  Since there is no desperate imperative lets see if we can do it more smoothly than we've been able to manage in the past.

I know that this is a hobby project for all of us and nobody wants to lose the fun aspect, but as the project gets even bigger we need to learn how to be slick about updates.  What better than to start learning now about the disciplines and procedures that we'll need to establish so that in the future we can ensure a good level of service.
