Joerg The very short answer is to keep the servers running.  Everything else is incidental. But, to be more specific there are things that funds can be used for that accelerate the growth of the project and help to ensure its success.  For example, if vandalism becomes a problem there might be a pressing need to get some of the long anticipated wiki-like functionality implemented.  Money can be used to stimulate development in specific areas that would not otherwise get much priority.

There are also things that require specialist skills that are not readily available in the community - for example addressing some of the legal questions and grey areas. Let me ask you, and more generally, the community, what would people like to see money being spent on (both large and small items) that would most help the project?
