<b>Subject: Rendering wish value "suburb"<br>
</b></font><br>
Hello Artem,<br><br>
Would it be possible to show the key=place value="suburbs" on
Mapnik with the same rules as<br>
k=place, v=village? In Germany, some suburbs belong to a city or
town,<br>
but look from the outside like another village, e.g. they are situated
outside of the city body at<br>
1 km distance. On the map the name of the neighboring village is shown,
while the suburbs name<br>
does not appear. The difference is mainly administrative only.<br>
It appears Mapnik does not render the value suburb. I do not know who
administrates the OSM-Mapnik.<br>
If you do not administrate the OSM-Mapnik-Tiles, perhaps you could
forward it to the person who does (steve8?).<br><br>
An example are Dutenhofen, Allendorf and Münchholzhausen immediately
southeast of Gießen, Germany, which are suburbs. Their<br>
names do not appear in Mapnik. On the other hand places like Heuchelheim
(west of Gießen) are tagged as villages, and they do appear.<br>
The value suburb is also rendered on the corresponding Osmarender
map.<br><br>
The example link:<br>

Thanks in advance,<br><br>

Sounds reasonable to me. Can we render place=suburbs ?<br><br>
Artem</blockquote><br>
That's "my" tag and certainly reasonable by me!
place=suburb without an s. Yes, the original intent was
that it would render with basically the same rules as a village.<br><br>
Here is where we originally used it, Sydney is place=city, there are some
surrounding satellite place=town and then there are 30 or so suburb
