The advantage of this over simple anonymous edits is that we can know that seemingly separate edits are by the same anonymous user, should that user choose to convey that information by using the same anonymous account multiple times before disposal. That may give us useful clues as to why a person is doing a particular type of edit so that when controversy strikes (as it has
in this case) we have more information to go by when deciding whether to nuke a set of edits or take a different course of action. Maybe we should facilitate the creation of anonymous accounts (of the format anon_sdj4fqw5k maybe?). Of course there will be people who choose to create a new anonymous account for every session, and that's absolutely fine too.
