Well,
BigTinCan maps does too. can make an arrow to point on the map.
http://maps.bigtincan.com/#

.. it can also show different map renderings..
?body=View my map at http://maps.bigtincan.com/?z=12&ll=49.118,-125.878&layer=000B00000TT
(i needed to right click and save email address to get it to copy)

Although the directions are only for Australia & New Zealand
... but it's not on the main website, so it doesn't really answer the OP question :)

In addition to the rest of the answers in the thread you can double click to centre the map then copy the shortlink and add ?m to the end of the url (assuming that your using the default Mapnik layer otherwise it's &m).

The answer given was to get a 'permalink' then put an 'm' before 'lat' and 'lon' in the url. The edited link then brings up a map with a red diamond at the centre of the map. This is not user friendly because you have to move the map around and guess when your location is at the centre of the map before getting your permalink. It takes a few attempts to get it right.

1. I am sure I saw a link in these mailing list where the the red diamond was replaced with an arrow. How was this done?
2. Is there an easy way to create the needed link?
3. Is there an easy way to create a link where the marker is not at the centre of the map (see below)

I wanted to email a link to an osm map which pointed out the location of a building in a small wood. OSM would have been brilliant because the wood is mapped, but it I didnt have time to spend several minutes trying to create a link with marker. I ended up using http://www.multimap.com/maps/ because it allowed me to add a marker using the right-mouse button, and this marker does not need to be in the centre of the map. Multimap also provides a short url, eg http://www.multimap.com/s/TSOdvGZH

I suppose I am hoping that in the future there is some way to replicate the easy method multimap provides.

cheers
Jason
user:jamicu
