Dont see that as necessarily bad. If there is a fundamental difference in ideologies/beliefs of members, I think the project, in the longer term is better served by a split. Neither do I see it as a setback, its more like a step backward to take many steps forward for each of the splits.<br>

X (You now have a choice of X.org and XFree86), The split caused a<br>
long halt in development and the original is hardly used now, only the<br>
branch....<br>
