It is partly to provide a way for end-users to view a map (although we provide a much simpler experience than other sites), but it is also to show people what can be done with OSM data.<br>
<br>Those two goals have overlapped at times, but IMO the latter is more important: showcasing useful and innovative things that have been done with OSM data is more important than trying to split ourselves into "open" (terms and conditions will apply) and not.<br>
