Thanks to everyone for the responses so far to "Coordination for Haiti mapping." While I concur with the responses so far, I would like to emphasize that managing volunteer efforts to avoid duplication is applicable to any major mapping initiative (humanitarian related or not) so it may be a worthwhile idea to discuss with the broader OSM community.

Maybe it is also prudent to recognise that while there is a crisis in
Haiti, there is mapping as usual in many other regions of the world -
some of it in regions that might become the next victim of a natural
disaster.

While most of us want to help where we can, OSM as a whole must not
grind to a halt because there is a crisis in Haiti. There are tens of
thousands of active OSMers around the world, and 400 of them are active
in Haiti. Every Haiti message on this mailing list reaches a very high
number of people who are not interested, and it is their right to be not
interested - they are doing good work elsewhere.

I think it is time for an osm-haiti mailing list - or if every OSMer
helping in Haiti is already on crisismappers, then that's ok too, we can
then simply stop crossposting and forwarding everything here.

+1 for an osm-haiti or a more general "osm-relief" mailing-list.
Hi

Many of the UK railway stations have a relation called site <Station name>:

http://osm.org/go/euu4xiukT--

What is the thinking behind this?

I don't see what this adds to the description especially when building=*
, landuse=* & railway=platform are also often used.

Is it to do with routing?

Cheers
site-relations are generally thought to group different parts and
aspects of a site into one (including fences, entrances, ways,
buildings, ...) object. This can be usefull in many regards, e.g. you
can associate in your case (station) subway-entraces to the
corresponding station.
I'd vote for this name, because "osm-relief" could be read as
"osm-contours" or something topographical like that.
