Hi Martin,<div><br></div><div>Thanks for registering for State of the Map!</div><div><br></div><div>To promote our conference we use several social networking sites (like Facebook and LinkedIn). Hence the links in the top banner of the website. People who have an account on these websites can share this event with their personal network.</div>
<div><br></div><div>For the registration process we use a third party tool (eventbrite). We do not have much control over these pages. Eventbrite also uses links to other social websites to promote their tool and other events that are handled by them.</div>
<div><br></div><div>We see it as a way of promoting the conference.</div><div><br></div><div>Hope this explains the presence of the facebook links. Just so you know: we do *not* urge you to sign up for any of these social networking websites. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div><div>Henk Hoff</div><div>SotM organizing committee</div><div><br></div><div><br><br><div class="gmail_quote">2010/4/14 M∡rtin Koppenhoefer <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:dieterdreist@gmail.com">dieterdreist@gmail.com</a>></span><br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">I was recently registering for SOTM and was a little bit confused<br>
about some advertisement I find on the page. I can understand that<br>
payments for convenience and security reasons are processed by paypal<br>
(they operate worldwide, ...), but is it really necessary to advertise<br>
facebook? As far as I guess there is only few of the people going to<br>
SOTM registered at facebook. Does facebook sponsor the event or what's<br>
the reason for their presence?<br>
<br>
cheers,<br>
Martin<br>
